What sets the audit fee

The auditor sets the price. It depends on the size of your organisation and how many participants you support.1

Your registration groups decide the audit type. 23 groups need a verification audit and 15 need a certification audit.2 One certification group makes the whole application a certification audit.2

  • Verification audit. A verification audit is a desktop review of documents by an approved quality auditor. It is for lower risk, lower complexity supports.1
  • Certification audit. Stage 1 is a desktop audit: the auditor asks for information and evidence, usually off-site. Stage 2 is an onsite audit: the auditor looks at how you carry out your policies and procedures. This can include viewing records, visiting your sites, interviewing staff and participants, and observing supports.1

See the audit type for each registration group, or read verification and certification audits compared.

Get quotes

The Commission suggests getting quotes from several auditors.1 In the new NDIS Commission portal you choose an approved quality auditor from a list, and you send your audit pack to that auditor.5 Read how the new portal works.

Costs after registration

Providers in certification groups start a mid-term audit no later than 18 months after registration begins, unless the Commissioner allows longer or an exemption applies. It covers governance and operational management, and any standard with an open corrective action plan.3

Registration lasts 3 years. You can apply to renew in the 6 months before it ends. If you apply before the end date, your registration stays valid until the Commission decides. If you apply after it, your registration has lapsed while the new application is assessed.4
